Phrases from history

Some of the status messages that I saw today :

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” - Aristotle

Take today to do something your heart has always dreamed of.

L'absence est à l'amour ce qu'est au feu le vent; - Il éteint le petit, il allume le grand. : Translated (thanks to Google Translator) : Absence is to love what wind to fire; - It extinguishes the small, it illuminates the general.

Some of the most profound thoughts over the time were spoken in simple words, but deliver a meaning that resonates through eternity. :)
These do seem timeless.
Such profound statements come from different sources. From great Philosophers, revolutionaries, authors, religious texts...
They sometimes give us the mood of the era (viva la revolucion)
Sometimes they just tell us simple truths. Still they always seem to enlighten us.

Conquers conquer the world until some one more powerful comes along and beats them. It has always been the way of the world. But the thoughts of great people, always are remembered across generations, across boundaries, across nations.
They cannot be defeated, they can only be erased. From thought and from books.
As long as either one exists, the idea will continue to exist.
As long as either one exists, the other is just a step away.

The sword might have ruled the world, but it was always broken by another. The sword might have caused revolution, destruction. But its work was always undone by time.
The pen created the world. It continues to affect the world.. evolve it. Time only helps it along, spread the word, bring more into the fold.
Certainly one has to agree... the pen is mightier than the sword :)
